The United States questioned Russian parliamentarians and was strongly protested that "moving the United Nations headquarters out of the United States" resonated.
CCTV News:According to an official of the Russian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly, recently, the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly had to announce the suspension of its work due to problems with visas for officials from Russia and other countries.
According to RIA Novosti No.8, the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly, namely the Legal Committee, was originally scheduled to hold a meeting at 3 pm new york time on the 7th, but the meeting was temporarily postponed to 10 am local time on the 8th. A Russian official said that the reason for the postponement of the meeting was that the US government refused to issue visas to representatives from Russia, Cuba and Iran, and the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly had no choice but to suspend the meeting.

In fact, it has happened more than once because the United States has obstructed the visa issue, which has affected the participation of representatives of relevant countries in United Nations meetings. Just in September this year, on the occasion of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, many members of the Russian and Iranian delegations failed to attend because they did not obtain American visas, which triggered strong protests from Russia and Iran. Even Iranian President Rouhani was granted a visa to the United States only after Iran’s solemn representations, and his scope of action in the United States is still strictly restricted. In April this year, some Russian representatives who were supposed to attend the meeting of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, namely the Disarmament and International Security Committee, were also unable to attend the meeting because of the refusal of the US visa.

Even so, the participants in other international conferences are even less secure. Recently, while attending a forum on Russian-US cooperation in the United States, Russian State Duma MP Yumasheva landed in new york with a visa issued by the United States, but was questioned by FBI agents for an hour. The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly protested this and submitted a protest note to the US. According to the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yumasheva is not the only Russian who failed to attend the forum successfully, and some other Russian participants were unable to attend the forum because they were refused visas by the United States.

The repeated refusal of the United States has angered countries including Russia. They criticized the United States for discrediting the United Nations. What’s more, these countries that were refused visas called for "moving the United Nations from new york to other places".
Zacharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said, "The visa issue didn’t start this year, because representatives of key countries couldn’t get American visas, and a series of UN meetings have not been held in new york." She said, "This influence is global, and the behavior of the United States is detrimental to the reputation of the United Nations. This is a shameful behavior."
In April this year, some Russian representatives failed to attend the meeting of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly because of the refusal of visas. At that time, the Russian side proposed, "If countries have no right to send people they think fit to express their positions and defend their interests, then the United Nations meeting should not be held in the United States." In September, another Russian representative was refused a visa at the UN General Assembly meeting. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov strongly condemned it. He suggested that the location of the UN headquarters should be changed. It seems that this issue should be discussed.

For the Russian proposal, Iranian President Rouhani agreed, "The United States has no right to hinder our officials from entering and leaving the United Nations, because the United Nations is a place for peaceful exchanges among all countries in the world, and the United States cannot only issue visas to people it likes." He said that if there is an opportunity, Iran will support the United Nations headquarters to move out of the United States and move to a "safer, better and less narrow-minded country".
