Ten interesting things about the top ten in ten years of Handbook.

◆ None of Chinese mainland’s films appeared in the nomination of any Handbook editor, and only Ang Lee’s Fantasy Drifting of Pi, a Chinese director, made the list once.
In addition to Lynch being mentioned 12 times, Dumont, Abichapon and Ge Daer were all mentioned 11 times. However, because two or more works of these three directors scattered the votes, Carax’s Holy Car Shop and Dumont’s Children finally took the second place with 10 references.
Similarly, Moleti was nominated for 8 times, but The Birth of the Pope was divided into 2 votes, so Moleti was only behind Tony Odman (7 votes) by virtue of My Mother.

◆ The worst is Hong Shangxiu, who was nominated for six times, and the votes were distributed in four films, namely Alone by the Sea at Night, We Are Good at Xi, Yourself and Yourself, and Haiyuan, Nobody’s Daughter, so none of them can make the list. There is no doubt, however, that Hong Shangxiu is still one of the directors with the highest recognition in the editorial department of Handbook in this decade.
◆ The one with the highest degree of overlap with the top ten of the Manual is STEPHANE DELORME, the editor-in-chief, with a total of eight films overlapping. Of the ten films nominated by him, only One-Day Lover and Synonym were unsuccessful in the final list, so it can be seen that the Manual is still the editor-in-chief’s Manual.

◆ The oldest nominee is Ge Daer (89 years old). However, when The Adventure of Angelica was released in 2015, director Oliveira was 102 years old. The youngest nominee is the Safedi brothers (God knows). Joshua was born in 1984 and Ben was born in 1986.
◆ Among all the nominated films, the latest film to be released is james gray’s Ad Astra, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on August 29th this year. Compared with the ten-year-old players such as Uncle Boomi who was recalled to his previous life and Adventure in Angelica, Ad Astra may not have much chance to be tested by history and reconsidered in the coordinate system of the Manual-it will not appear in the top ten list in the next decade.

◆ Three cartoons were mentioned, all of which came from Japan: Miyazaki Hayao’s Windy, Mamoru Hosoda’s Wolf’s Child Rain and Snow, and Ayumu Watanabe’s Son of the Sea Beast.
◆ The longest nominated film is david lynch’s Twin Peaks (undoubtedly, it is a drama series); The shortest nominated film was the World Cup in Recife directed by Kleber Mendoza Jr., which lasted only 15 minutes. What needs special mention is the film Flowers directed by Mariano Lliná S, which is divided into three parts and lasts for nearly 14 hours. It has been mentioned twice by the editor of Manual.
◆ david lynch became the only filmmaker who made the top ten list for three times in a row, and ranked first for two times in a row. If he really leads the times for 30 years, is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is it the Manual or the cinema?
