On July 21st, Marvel Comics officially announced the first Chinese superhero solo film "The Legend of Shangqi and the Ten Commandments" at the San Diego Comic-Con, which will be released in North America on February 21st, 2021. Liu Simu, a Chinese Canadian actor, played the leading role.
It is certainly a happy thing for Chinese superheroes to join the Marvel Universe. However, Tony Leung Chiu Wai will play the villain "Man Da Ren", which has caused controversy.
"Fu Manchu" became "full of adults"
Shangqi was inspired by Bruce Lee. In July 1973, Bruce Lee died unfortunately. In December of the same year, Marvel Comics created Shangqi, which was very similar in image and martial arts style to Bruce Lee.
"Shangqi" in the cartoon was born in China, and his father is a super villain — — Fu Manchu. Shangqi is kind in nature. Fu Manchu and Master taught him high martial arts. "Fu Manchu" comes from a series of novels "Fu Manchu" written by British novelist Saxophone Lamor, which first appeared in the book "The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu" in 1913. His IQ is extremely high, and he graduated from Cambridge University, Columbia University and Yale University. He is good at medicine, and he is proficient in languages of various countries and ancient oriental mysteries.
"Fu Manchu" has a treacherous look with pointed chin, moustache and slender eyes. He is always claustrophobic in the dark world, proficient in all kinds of torture and poison, and planning all kinds of evil deeds.
This time, Marvel Comics filmed "Shangqi", avoiding "Fu Manchu" and renaming it "Man Daren". In the Encyclopedia of Marvel Comics published by Marvel Comics, Man is still an important villain in Marvel Comics, but his life experience and story line are obviously different from Fu Manchu’s.
Setting up controversy
Although "Shangqi" is honored as "Kung Fu Master" by other superheroes, and has a high value of force, he once served as a fighting instructor in Spider-Man and joined the new The Avengers at the invitation of Iron Man and Captain America, but the setting of Man’s adult has caused many controversies.
Fu Manchu inspired the establishment of many fictional characters. Although "Man Da Ren" is not the same character as Fu Manchu, there is still the shadow of "Fu Manchu".
Man Daren is a super villain under the American Marvel Comics. He made his debut in Suspense Story No.50 (February 1964), which was jointly created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, larry lieber and Don Heck. He is Iron Man’s number one enemy. Like Tony Stark, he is also a rich gentleman born with a golden key. With abundant financial resources, he has entered many fields such as politics, economy and military affairs.

How to reset the role of "Man Adult"?
What is certain is that since Marvel Comics filmed this film and knew the importance of China film market, he would definitely reset the role of "Man Da Ren".
In the previous film adapted from Iron Man comics, the producer specially designed Man as a Middle Eastern, and in one version, doctors and nurses played by Chinese actors also helped Iron Man to cure his chronic illness.
Now that Marvel Comics wants to earn money from the global audience by "getting angry", it needs to take care of the feelings of Chinese groups and the preferences of western audiences, so it needs to be coordinated among many factors.
