University is the cradle of cultivating talents and the paradise of building artistic dreams. College students’ drama and campus drama are important parts of drama art. In 2001, a group of college students from China Renmin University, Beijing Institute of Technology and other universities, with the lead support of Beijing Dramatists Association, opened the prelude of the first college students’ drama festival in the 21st century in Beijing People’s Art Theater, and Beijing college students’ drama activities began a new course of going out of campus and integrating into society.
In 2008, the China Campus Drama Festival was founded by the Chinese Drama Association, which led the college students’ drama festival to a higher standard and continued the inclusiveness of the college students’ drama festival, and became a national drama activity welcomed by college teachers and students all over the country. Today, the college drama festival named "Golden Hedgehog" has gone through 20 years. In the past 20 years, a total of 32 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, more than 1,100 universities and colleges, more than 1,300 drama clubs, 275 plays, 25,000 college students, more than 100 experts and professors and more than 1,000 volunteers participated in the "Golden Hedgehog" activity, and the radiation crowd accumulated more than 600,000 people.
The College Students’ Drama Festival has grown into a platform for campus cultural exchange that can’t be ignored, and has become an important part of contemporary China drama. During the transition period of China’s drama development, it not only cultivated a new audience group, but also promoted the vigorous development of China’s drama in the new century. On the platform of drama festival, it helped the comprehensive youth creative group to become the creative force of China’s contemporary drama and enriched the stage performance of China’s contemporary drama.
A few days ago, under the guidance of the International Department of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the International Forum on Campus Drama in the New Century was held, which was co-sponsored by the Chinese Dramatists Association and the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles and hosted by the Beijing Dramatists Association. Experts and scholars from China, Japan and other countries jointly reviewed the development of campus drama and exchanged experiences in the development of campus drama in different countries.
College students’ drama is the cradle of China’s drama.
"If campus life must be an indispensable thing, I think it must be a drama. Campus is the soil that breeds ideological progress, and college students are the leaders of ideological emancipation. " At the forum, Su Sheqin, the second inspector of Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, said that college students’ drama is the cradle of China’s drama and has always been accompanied by the development and growth of China’s drama. Countless outstanding dramatic works such as The Black Slave’s Call to Heaven, In the Silent Place, etc. first moved from campus to China. College students naturally like to use the power of action to express their feelings and demands in a dramatic way.
Perhaps the stage conditions are simple, but college students are passionate and full of passion. They paint their dreams and fly with youth on the stage with sincere emotions and simple performances. In the new century, more and more college students are fond of drama. They have their own drama club and devoted themselves to the creation of drama.
"Drama has a unique advantage in campus art." Lin Yinyu, a drama director and educator, and a member of the Chinese Dramatists Association, said that drama has no strict requirements on the natural attributes of the participants, and there is no euphemistic voice, the proportion of short legs and long legs, the palm is not wide and the fingers are not long, and it cannot span eight keys, and it is weak in color, tone-deaf, and the figure is not beautiful and graceful … … Such ordinary people can also take part in theatrical performances. More importantly, it is human nature to play. People in any society will change freely in different identities subconsciously and unconsciously. Therefore, drama is more grounded, worldly and easy to get started than other art categories. Therefore, campus drama can occupy a large proportion in the university campus and enjoy more attention.
As Yue Guangwen, a professor majoring in stage performance at Japan’s Tongpeng Academy of Fine Arts, said: The value of students’ drama and art lies in being able to devote themselves to creation without considering commercial factors. It is in this innate advantage that the campus provides the simplicity and purity that drama is most needed for artistic creation. "The purity and passion in college students’ drama is also the essential strength of drama." Feng Yuanzheng, a drama actor and vice president of Beijing People’s Arts, pointed out that young students should always keep their passion, and Do not forget your initiative mind will promote the progress of China’s drama career with the truest, simplest and most unique expression.
It shows the spiritual outlook and aesthetic pursuit of contemporary college students.
Yue Guangwen said that in the university performance class he taught, he would first give students a topic of self-portrait and ask them to create a monologue. "Because I hope that before playing others, that is, playing the given role, every student needs to face himself first, explore what kind of endowment he has while experiencing his own life, and then play others and play the given role." Dramas and other literary and artistic works with content first determine that the creators should first understand life and comprehend it, and then give their own thoughts to the works, which also determines that the dramatic works reflect the creators’ ideological style, personality, ideals and beliefs to a certain extent, and college students’ dramas are spontaneously created by themselves, which can better reflect this.
"Campus drama activities are like a mirror, which enables us to glimpse the spiritual outlook and aesthetic pursuit of contemporary college students." Feng Yuanzheng pointed out.
"The campus drama itself enlivens the campus atmosphere in which college students live and enriches campus life; The interpretation and rehearsal of western drama broadens the artistic vision of college students; The creation and rehearsal of contemporary realistic dramas have promoted college students to pay attention to social phenomena, explore social problems, and think about life, human nature and people’s living conditions. The exquisiteness and profundity of classic drama works at all times and at all times attracts campus dramatists and drama participants, and promotes the young people’s understanding of historical connotations and mysteries of life. " Lin Yinyu pointed out.
College students’ drama has contributed to the drama stage of the new generation and provided the backup force for the future drama stage. From these figures, we can clearly see the healthy upward and deep thinking of college students in the new era.
"Campus drama is undoubtedly a pure land. In drama, college students experience life, experience themselves and find telepathy about happiness. Most college students who are active on the stage today may choose to engage in other careers in the future, but the experience they have gained from drama activities will provide them with many life lessons, and society has also gained confidence in the times and the future from college students’ drama practice. " Song Baozhen, director of the Drama Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Art, pointed out.
Make an indispensable contribution to the prosperity of drama.
As Feng Yuanzheng said: "Campus drama makes people look forward to the future of China’s drama." Drama Festival has played an important role in attracting and encouraging drama creators on campus, and discovering and promoting outstanding drama talents. "Some drama lovers have embarked on the road of specialization since then. Ying Huang, Zhao Miao, Shao Zehui, Wang Hao, Gu Lei, etc., who are now active in the drama stage, are all drama talents who stand out from the drama festival. They are continuing their drama ideals with excellent works." Feng Yuanzheng said.
More importantly, these campus drama activities have also cultivated a large number of high-quality drama audiences and contributed to the drama ecological construction of the campus and even the whole society.
Yang Ganwu, vice chairman of Beijing Dramatists Association, pointed out that the purity of college students’ drama creation and the vivid expression of their thoughts are surprising. Compared with the depression of some professional theater groups, campus drama is full of vitality and hope.
College students’ drama festival comes at the right time, which provides an important platform for opening up the new path of drama popularization education in the new century and is becoming an indispensable existence for cultivating the drama culture market and promoting drama culture. Hu Wei, a professor at the Department of Drama and Literature of the Central Academy of Drama, pointed out: College students’ drama has gone out of campus, stepped into the society, and integrated into the field of professional drama, breaking the long-standing barrier of so-called professionalism and amateurism, popularizing and disseminating drama culture, cultivating several generations of young drama audiences, and laying the foundation for establishing an ecological chain for the development of drama culture.
Many creators who are active in "Youth Drama Festival" are important forces in college students’ dramas. Tao Qingmei, a researcher at the Institute of Literature of China Academy of Social Sciences, said that Lv Xiaoping, as a teacher of Nantah College of Literature, took the drama and film major of Nanjing University as a position, which not only promoted the development of students such as Zhu Yi and Wen Fangyi to professional playwrights, but also promoted the creation of students in Nanjing University in the contemporary drama environment. Wen Fangyi’s drama "Face of Jiang Gong" is still on tour. After graduating from China University of Mining and Technology, Zhou Guangwei, the screenwriter of the campus drama "Chen She Family", entered the research institute of local drama, and his play "Six Chapters of a Floating Life" cooperated with Peking Opera Theatre was widely praised.
As summarized by Yang Ganwu, college students’ drama is a youthful force that is not dominated by commerce and consumption. It can maintain a pure and detached artistic attitude and a greater original creativity, thus providing a unique spiritual nourishment for the drama ecology. College students are a rising group of young intellectuals, who represent the future of the motherland, and their academic cultivation and artistic temperament will greatly affect the future direction of literature and art. College students’ enthusiasm and devotion to drama will affect the future fate and future of drama. We earnestly hope that the new generation of college students will live up to expectations, surpass themselves, be brave enough to take responsibility and inject vitality into the drama of the new era tomorrow.
